Hazy Nostalgia: Baltimore’s TWOSEVEN. Reimagines Trapsoul with "NSFW"
There are artists who follow the blueprint, and then there are artists like TWOSEVEN. — a Baltimore-based visionary who is busy building a whole new foundation. Unapologetically herself, TWOSEVEN. is a rare breed of creator: an artist, producer, and songwriter who isn't afraid to wrestle with her demons in the booth while slaying the production from behind the boards.
Her mission is clear and powerful: to lead by example and inspire queer Black girls to own their narrative. Whether she's calling out the BS of societal norms or laying her inner self bare, TWOSEVEN. demands your attention.
Based out of her successful Baltimore studio, The Chamber, an artist incubator and creative hub she owns and operates, TWOSEVEN. has cultivated a space where vulnerability meets high level production. It was in this very environment that her latest track, "NSFW" was born.
The creative process for "NSFW" was as organic as it gets. Born from a freestyle session with her best friend, PME Ghost, the track began not with a melody, but with a conversation.
"We spend an hour talking about what's on our minds, what's inspiring us, or what's been pissing us off. We use that to guide where we take the music."
For those who miss the era of hazy, atmospheric Trapsoul that dominated the mid-2010s, "NSFW" is a homecoming. It’s a record that feels like a nod to the early 2015 SoundCloud days, the very era that made TWOSEVEN. fall in love with production in the first place.
"NSFW" is edgy, dark, and sensuously layered. It’s a track that feels like a late night drive through the city. Introspective yet confident, vulnerable yet guarded. By handling both the beat and the bars, TWOSEVEN. ensures that every element of the song aligns with her specific, "unapologetic" vision.
In a world full of surface level tracks, TWOSEVEN. is offering something with actual weight. She isn't just making music; she’s building a legacy of authenticity and representation.
